"Shapes, color, and types of stone communicate and elevate my joy with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, pinks, blues, yellows, reds, greens, and clears.” - Amy B.
Why did you choose to design a custom piece?
As a contemporary artist trained in formal painting, design, color theory and art history, I have always had a passion for modern art and design. I also studied gemology and appraisal studies in NYC and Japan, and received certificates from New York University and Gemological Institute of America to validate this avocation. My first custom pieces were designed from a combination of artistic meditation and as a gift to myself at an important time in my life. I was reaching a pinnacle and a plateau around the time of a special birthday. Also, I am divorced and wanted to treat myself for a fresh start. It was a celebration of my art career, my new singleness and my love of light, grace and modern style. I started by purchasing a few small, not custom, pieces from Diamond Nexus sales and they were so terrific that I graduated to designing my own.
Where did the inspiration for this design come from?
I saw that strong women such as Chanel, Schiaparelli, Jacqueline Kennedy, Diana Vreeland and Gayle King all wore special costume jewelry. I live in New York City, and I saw no reason to take my grandmother's jewels from a safe to flaunt when lab-created jewels are more significant, more effective and contemporary.
I like great big looks that compete with any auction house items in style, but not in cost. I researched and decided to try the modern new lab-created diamonds, with guidance from Forever Artisans as to what settings could work to extend my visions. Shapes, color, and types of stone communicate and elevate my joy with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, pinks, blues, yellows, reds, greens, and clears.
Did we meet all of your expectations from design image to finished piece?
I am very happy and get many compliments. My colleagues at an Upper East Side art gallery cannot believe how special and fabulous they look, and admire my collaborations with Forever Artisans. I was very pleased with the process.
"Fashion rings such as Amy's are always a lot of fun to work on. The repetition and symmetry are elements of a design that I find most soothing and pleasing to the eye. I was happy to be able to incorporate marquis shaped stones, as I feel they are a beautiful shape that is often overlooked in designs. Amy was a joy and so much fun to work with, I hope I get a chance to do so again."
