“I decided to do rubies on the outside leading to the center stone to represent the two of us coming together as one.” - Carl & Katie
How did you two meet?
First met with Katie being my out processing nurse for a surgery and then met again through an online dating site a couple months later.
How long have you been together?
Started dating May 28, 2012; married April 4, 2013.
How did you hear about us?
I did a web search. After reading reviews online it was an easy choice to start with Forever Artisans. From the first communications it was clear I chose the right company.
Did we meet all of your expectations from design image to finished piece?
Can you share your proposal story?
Both us were from the South East and were stationed in California. Christmas was one of the only times we could go home to see family. We went early because Katie had to work New Year's Day. While visiting her family I asked her Dad for her hand; he said “of course” and welcomed me to the family. We watched the ball drop together on New Year's Eve with our little puppies. It was time for bed because Katie had to be at work early the next morning. She took the dogs out and when she came back in all the lights were off and I was in the bedroom. She came in and I handed her a folded notecard that said "My New Years resolution is..." And she opened it and it said “…to marry you.” She looked up I and I was on one knee with the ring. I told her how much I loved her and how happy she made me. She was crying as she said “yes.”
How was your overall experience with Forever Artisans?
Absolutely great. I had the engagement ring created and delivered very fast. The representative that helped me design the ring was great – very understanding and helpful. The same goes for the creator of the ring. I highly recommend them to everyone. When it was time to create the wedding band that would cradle the engagement ring it was easy to know where to go. Katie, knowing how easily frustrated with customer service I get, also chose Forever Artisans because she saw how easy it was for me to work with them on my schedule and get it done quickly.
Where did the inspiration for this design come from?
My fiancee's style is very Victorian, and mine is Art Deco, so I was looking for a turn-of-the-century-feeling design with features of both. My grandmother offered me the diamond from her engagement ring, which my grandfather (and namesake) had proposed to her with. I found a beautiful setting inspired by the late Victorian period at a jeweler in New York, but the setting couldn't accommodate my grandmother's diamond. Working with my Forever Artisans designer, I kept the overall shape and a lot of the detail from the setting I was inspired by, but added some touches of my own.
"It was lovely to use our synthetic ruby in a design like this. It is a great opportunity to create something unique."
